American Idol Season 15 Episode 9 Recap- Hollywood Week Wraps Up

During American Idol Season 15 Episode 9, each of the contestants will pick a song they want to sing and work with the American Idol band to come up with an arrangement. After each performance, there will be no feedback from the judges. Once all the performances are complete, the judges will to decide who advances and who doesn’t. Then, all of the contestants will be divided into three rooms, and the decisions will be announced. I both love and hate when they divide the contestants up in their rooms. You know everyone is eyeballing each other thinking “oh no, I’m with that guy who blew it!” It has got to be nerve-wracking in those rooms, almost as scary as the beginning of the competition!

Stephany Negrete– Set Fire to the Rain by Adele- Her father is not here with her because he is home recovering from a recent heart procedure. This girl has top 51 written all over her. With a strong voice like that, she may even hit top 24.

Thomas Stringfellow– A Thousand Years by Christina Perri- I am surprised by his performance tonight. He has been doing so well but tonight he crumbled under the pressure. He was off pitch something crazy, and it wasn’t very good tonight.

Avalon Young– One Last Time by Ariana Grande- She did a great job, but I think she lacks self-confidence. After the performance, she seemed disappointed.

Olivia Rox– Olivia decides to sing an original song. She is a great songwriter and singer, a huge plus for an aspiring musician.

John Wayne Schulz– John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16 by Keith Urban- I get nervous when a contestant takes on a song from one of the judges. He has such a strong voice for country.

Mackenzie Bourg- He sings a song he wrote, Roses. I wasn’t sure about her at first but after this performance, I am starting to really like him. He pours his voice and heart into this song.

Shelbie Z– Alone by Heart- I love her voice and her range. She is definitely one to watch in this competition.

Kory Wheeler– Fix You by Coldplay- It wasn’t a bad performance. I don’t think it was one of his best performances, but I think it was good enough to make it to the top 51 at least.

James Dawson– Wicked Game by Chris Isaak- James is definitely improving with each performance. However, I don’t think this was the best song choice for him. He did do well with the song, but I think there are better song choices for him.

Tristan McIntosh– What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts- This song is such a powerful and emotional song and Tristan just didn’t have the power or the emotion needed to sing this song brilliantly. She seems tired? I am not sure she is ready for the pressures ahead in this competition, you could tell she was trying. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t that strong of a performance as some of the other competition, but it was sweet she sang to her mom.

Sonika Vaid– One Last Time by Ariana Grande- Sonika is another contender in this competition. Her voice is simply amazing and strong. I don’t think she does well on the performer side of things as she’s just not fun to watch. That’s something she needs to work on to stay in the competition, but her voice is great.

John Lee– Stitches by Shawn Mendes- John has a great voice, but because he is young, his voice is still changing quite a bit. You can really hear in his voice that it needs a little more development, but he’s got the tunes spot on. I don’t think he will make it to the top 51 unfortunately, and if he does, he definitely won’t make it to the top 24. Poor guy, I think he just needs time!

Sara Sturm– Somewhere Only We Know by Keane- She is another one that seems so exhausted already. She had some troubles with the high notes. I don’t know she will make it to the top 51.

Jenn Blosil– True Colors by Cyndi Lauper- Jenn totally nailed this song. It was the ideal song choice for her.

Emily Brooke– What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts- Another person singing this song tonight? She did much better than Tristan did with the song, although she sang it in the wrong key.

Maile Delgado– Stitches by Shawn Mendes- She is sick tonight, and you can certainly tell. Her voice sounds awful, and the judges totally understand, as they are singers as well.

Mionne Dynasty– Chains by Nick Jonas- Here is another sick one but her voice isn’t as bad. She manages to do well.

Jessica Cabral– Up to the Mountain by Patty Griffin- And yet another sick contestant. However, once she started singing, you’d never know she was even sick. Beautiful voice. Love her.

Joshua Wicker– 1000 Years by Christina Perri- I don’t know what to say about Joshua, seriously I am not digging him. I am surprised he made it past the auditions.

CJ Johnson– Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac- I like CJ. I like his voice, I like his personality, I just plain like him. I hope he makes it further!

Jeneve Rose Mitchell– Danny’s Song by Loggins & Messina- I am on the fence with this performance. She has great vocals, but this was too pitchy for my taste.

Dalton Rapattoni– Hopelessly Devoted to You by Olivia Newton John- Dalton is another one I liked but didn’t like this performance. He put way too much emotion into the song that really didn’t need to be there. It was a bit over the top which made it seem cheesy.

So, from the above performances, going home is John Wayne Schulz, John Lee, and Joshua Wicker.

American Idol Season 15 Episode 10 Recap: The Top 24

Here we are for night #2 already for the American Idol Season 15 Episode 10 recap! *TEAR* I’m going to miss you, American Idol! There will be 51 performers tonight, but only 24 will survive. The contestants will face the judges after their short performance to see if they have made it into the top 24. I can only imagine how stressed out the contestants are!

Stephany Negrete– Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys- Great job on the performance and she is in the top 24.

Shelbie Z– Barracuda by Heart- Love this performance and Shelbie is in the top 24.

Michelle Marie– Little Toy Guns by Carrie Underwood- She is such a character, real she is so funny! Unfortunately, she is eliminated. What a bummer!

Mackenzie Bourg– I Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley- He is really good at changing the song up to suit his tastes and style. He is in the top 24.

Trent Harmon– Tiny Dancer by Elton John- Trent definitely has to be in the top 24. After all, if you can nail a song while you have mono, you’re a contender. He is still sick tonight but still makes the top 24.

Jeneve Rose Mitchell– Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash- She is amazing with this song. She is in the top 24. Sweet!

CJ Johnson– Parachute by Cheryl Cole- Good ole CJ is up next. I definitely see him as a finalist. He makes the top 24, of course.

Amelia Eisenhauer– New York State of Mind by Billy Joel- She nails this performance, complete with her sidekick violin. She makes the top 24.

Lee Jean– Make It Rain by Ed Sheeran- Good song choice for him. But I do think he is a bit cocky, as he told the audience twice to be quiet. Dude, being a diva will not make you a star. But, he is in the top 24.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X3uA2z7-yo

Avalon Young– Yo Excuse Me Miss by Chris Brown- Another top 24 contestant for sure, after this cool performance that was complete with her now signature beanie.

Dalton Rappattoni– It’s Gonna Be Me by N’Sync- Dalton not only has a great voice but I love his personality. He has a great sense of humor, and he seems super smart. He is in the top 24.

Manny Torres– Master Blaster by Stevie Wonder- Manny, of course, made the top 24! Awesome singer and performer.

Thomas Stringfellow– Story of my Life by One Direction- Poor Thomas! His girlfriend just broke up with him, and he is a bit emotional. He pours all that emotion into the song and makes the top 24.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc4HxM1Ohwg

Sonika Vaid– I Surrender by Celine Dion- Sonika, of course, makes the top 24.

Malie Delgado– Little White Church by Little Big Town- She did okay with this song, but it wasn’t enough to keep her in the competition, as she is eliminated.

Olivia Rox– Love Somebody by Maroon 5- Olivia is another obvious one that made it to the top 24.

Emily Brooke– So Small by Carrie Underwood- When she auditioned last season, this was the point where she was eliminated. However, she has improved so much in a year and makes it to the top 24.

Gianna Isabella– I Still Believe by her mom, Brenda K. Starr- I like her, but her mom still bugs me. Her mom needs to back off some, come on. I know her mom was a singer, but let Gianna stand on her own feet. Maybe she shouldn’t have sang her mom’s song if she doesn’t’ want to hang off her coat tails? But, Gianna makes it to the top 24.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4IipYum63A

Jenn Blosil– The Hanging Tree by James Newton Howard- Great performance and she is in the top 24.

Tristan McIntosh– Stronger by Faith Hill- She nailed this song and staked her place in the top 24.

We are down to four contestants: Two males and two females. But, there is only one spot left for the males and one for the females. The two remaining males, Jordan Sasser, and Kayce Haynes face the judges, and Jordan moves on and Kayce is eliminated.

Now, it is the females turn, pitting Lindita Halimi and La’Porsha Renae in front of the judges, and La’Porsha moves on, and Lindita is eliminated. Ohh the tears. I was sad to see Lindita go out that way. You could so tell she was trying to own it and pour some soul into it.

  1. I don’t have any favorites yet, but I think this Top 24 is a mean bunch! All super talented, all hungry for success. It would be exciting to see how this Season 15 turns out!

  2. There are so many great choices this season. My family is currently divided on who to support, but normally we come together to support a performer as the season winds down. Can’t wait to see who it is going to be.
