Icons Night At Dancing with the Stars- Season 21, week 8

We have seven couples left this week at Dancing With The Stars, season 21, week 8. This week’s theme is Icons Night. Read our recap to get caught on the highlights. The celebrities choose someone who has influenced them over the years. There are two rounds of dances tonight. The couple that has the highest score from the first round will receive immunity of being eliminated.

Icons Night At Dancing with the Stars- Season 21, week 8 Recap

Carlos and Witney- Salsa- Valio La Pena by Marc Anthony

Carlos has never done a salsa dance before, even though he is Latin. Carlos said his inspiration is Marc Anthony, who invited Carlos and Witney to one of his concerts and gave them some advice. I have to say that I am impressed with how good Carlos is doing with the salsa, having never done one. The routine has quite a few lifts and Carlos does miss one of them.

Carrie Ann– 9- the start was rough but went to another level after that

Julianne– 9- wants Carlos to work on his hip movements

Bruno– 9- liked it a lot

Total– 27/30

Alek and Lindsay- Contemporary- Holding Out for a Hero by Ella Mae Bowen

Alek says his inspiration is American sniper, Chris Kyle. Alek has a tough time seeing himself as a hero but Lindsay reminds him that he is a true hero. The two men who were on the train with Chris in August, where they stopped a gunman, Spencer Stone and Anthony Sadler, were there tonight to support their friend. Alek does well with this contemporary routine but like Carlos, Alek also messes up on a lift. So, yeah Alek does well but I just think there could have been more from Alek.

Carrie Ann– 9- didn’t notice the mistake

Julianne- 8– wanted to see more side by side

Bruno- 8- dance was moving, but he did notice the lift mistake

Total- 25/30

Andy and Allison- Viennese Waltz- Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder

ANDY GRAMMER: DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Episode 2108" - Andy Grammar and Allison Holker were eliminated o

Andy picked Stevie Wonder for his inspiration, but he is dedicating the dance to his mother. Andy was very close with his mother and misses her dearly. I think that Andy really is the weakest link right now. Andy doesn’t make the dance look good because he doesn’t glide from one step to another, but he stops and then starts again. Other than that, he does do well with the dance.

Carrie Ann- 8- felt emotion but thinks the dance suffered

Julianne- 7- agrees with Carrie Ann on the negatives

Bruno- 7- intentions were there, but the execution wasn’t what it should be

Total- 22/30

Alexa and Mark- Argentine Tango- Viva La Vida by Coldplay

Alexa choose David from David and Goliath as her influence. She says that each dance is her giant. I like the energy that Alexa has in this routine. Unfortunately, she had a slight misstep in the middle of the routine and it seemed to have thrown her off her game a bit. It is too bad because had she not made that little mistake, this would have been a perfect dance. Alexa was clearly frustrated that she made the mistake.

Carrie Ann- 9- said it was epic

Julianne- 8- Alexa was intense but noted the missteps

Bruno- 8- at this point in the competition, mistakes do show

Total- 25/30

Nick and Sharna- Contemporary- Can’t Help Falling in Love by Haley Reinhart

Nick’s wife, Lauren, is his inspiration. They have been trying to have a baby for quite some time now, after suffering a miscarriage. It is revealed that Lauren is now 16 weeks pregnant so this dance means a lot to Nick. Nick is totally nailing this dance. I love the chemistry that he and Sharna have in this dance. Nick gives his wife a kiss after the dance and she joins him at the judges table. Later, after the scores are announced, we learn that Nick and Lauren are having a boy. This is the first time that the couple is also finding out the sex of their baby.

Carrie Ann- 10- said it was Nick’s best dance ever

Julianne- 10- showed he is a true dancer

Bruno- 10– the dance was a love poem seen through a dance

Total- 30/30

Bindi and Derek- Foxtrot- Grace Kelly by MIKA

Bindi chose Grace Kelly for her icon. Poor Bindi has bruising on her knees and her toenails are falling off, a true testament to her dedication to this competition. I like the choreography that Derek did for this dance. Bindi, as always, is doing an outstanding job.

Carrie Ann- 10- she is 100% full out in her dances

Julianne- 9- trying to find something wrong but can’t

Bruno– 9- said Bindi has the feel of a Hollywood sweetheart

Total- 28/30

Tamar and Val- Paso Doble- Born This Way by Lady Gaga

Val isn’t happy because of the way Tamar is being edited. Tamar chooses her sister, Toni, as her icon. I think Tamar is not connected with Val again in this dance but at this point, I honestly don’t think their chemistry will ever be 100%. Val did an outstanding job on the choreography. Whatever people think of her as an individual, it is hard not to say she is a great dancer. Very strong dance for her.

Carrie Ann- 9- gives props to Tamar

Julianne- 9- said she looked stunning

Bruno- 10- loved it from beginning to end

Total- 28/30

Time for the Dance-Off at Dancing With The Stars, Season 21, Week 8

So, since Nick and Sharna have the highest score, they have immunity for tonight. This means that they won’t be eliminated, they won’t have to participate in the dance-off and they earn three extra points for tonight. Bindi and Derek choose Carlos and Witney for the dance-off, choosing the jive for the dance. Tamar and Val choose Alexa and Mark, choosing the cha-cha-cha for the dance and Andy and Allison are left with Alex and Lindsay, choosing the samba for the dance. So, the judges vote on which couple they think won the dance-off and America gets to vote during the dance, with the live results show on a screen.

1st Dance-Off- Bindi and Derek versus Carlos and Witney

It is really hard to judge two different dances going on at the same time. Bindi looks strong as usual and Carlos is also strong, after a weak start. They are both doing amazing so it is hard to tell how this one will end.

Carrie Ann– Carlos and Witney

Julianne- Carlos and Witney

Bruno- Carlos and Witney

America- Bindi and Derek with 64%- WINNERS!

2nd Dance-Off- Tamar and Val versus Alexa and Mark

Alexa is doing perfect steps for this dance while Tamar is taking a more seductive approach. Both are doing very well, but I think Alexa has a bit of an edge, for me.

Carrie Ann- Alexa and Mark

Julianne- Tamar and Val

Bruno- Tamar and Val

America- Alexa and Mark with 76%- WINNERS!

3rd Dance-Off- Andy and Allison versus Alek and Lindsay

I have liked Alek since the beginning but right now, I think Andy is doing better.

Carrie Ann- Andy and Allison

Julianne- Andy and Allison

Bruno- Andy and Allison

America-Andy and Allison with 54%- WINNERS!

  1. I seriously cried my face OFF during Nick’s video, dance and the announcement. I’m totally rooting for him even though I love Alexa and Carlos. Of course, Bindi is amazing and kills it but I honestly, don’t want to see her win BECAUSE she’s such a stand out.

  2. I was so sorry for Alexa for making that misstep. She did so well apart from that. I hope either Bindi or Alexa wins.

  3. I love all of their flashy costumes. They are always so beautiful and eye catching. I know they go with whatever dance they are doing that week but I just think they’re so interesting!

  4. Geeze! I really need to get into this show! I have never really watched it, but have seen that it is extremely popular! I have been hearing a lot of good things about Bindi 🙂 Guess I’ll have to give this show a try!

  5. I need to follow this show. I do see the recaps all over facebook and everyone loves it. I do hope the Irwin girl wins. I loved watching her father and love her grace. Thank you for this post I will start watching now 🙂

  6. I used to watch this show sometimes. I think my favorite part is the music and the costumes, although I can definitely appreciate how good some of the stars get at shaking it! I, for one, have two left feet and would get kicked out on the first night!

  7. It’s great how Carlos has practiced so hard to attain great dancing skills. Salsa is not too easy of dance so I admire him so much. Alexa is also a solid dancer. No question why Carrie Ann gave such a high score.
