AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS - "Episode 2601" -- "America's Funniest Home Videos," the longest-running primetime show in ABC history, returns with new host Alfonso Ribeiro ("Dancing with the Stars," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air") on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11 (7:00-8:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The video highlights in the season 26 premiere episode include a package of "Animal Encounters" complete with an affectionate seal who jumps into a man's kayak to snuggle, a dolphin who gives a woman climbing into a boat a playful nudge, a sneaky raccoon is caught on camera climbing into the house through a doggy door to steal the dog's food, a woman finds a possum underneath her bed, and a practical joke is played on a group of teens who bite into caramel onions rather than apples. As most of you know, Tom Bergeron left America’s Funniest Home Videos at the end of last season, after being the host since 2001. The new host is Alfonso Ribeiro. You may remember him as Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the role he played from 1990-1996. He was also the Season 19 winner of Dancing with the Stars with his partner, Witney Carson. The new set of AFHV is different this season. It features new lighting, floor, video screens and stairway.

Here are the highlights of some of the night’s videos and segments. My thoughts, comments, etc. are in parenthesis.

  • A dad is showing off, sliding down a slide and suddenly rips his shirt on the way down.
  • Five boys are all in a tent; they each come out one by one and each one trips exiting the tent.
  • A little girl in a store with her mom asks if that is a picture of grandma, pointing to an ad featuring a woman in a bikini. (Grandma must be proud)
  • A man is at a roller skating rink, trying to look cool. The thing is that he is not even skating, but standing up by the side wall. Suddenly, he starts to roll and falls over.
  • A bulldog is on a treadmill; he walks up the treadmill and slides down; walks back up and slides down again. (Very cute video)
  • A boy is playing field hockey in his driveway; he shoots the puck, which ends up flying through a window in the garage, shattering it. (I am sure his parents are not happy with his sport of choice right about now)
  • A girl is demonstrating something she made with a rubber egg. She explains that you soak it in vinegar with some food coloring for about four days. The results? She smashes the egg onto the counter, resulting in a big green mess.

In the dog video segment of the show, several dog videos are shown including a dog who has a paddle in his mouth, playing table tennis and a small dog on the table trying to get the bone that is at the bottom of his water dish. The problem?  It is not a real bone and merely a photo of one!

In another show segment titled “Maybe That Isn’t Your Thing,” a guy playing mini-golf hits the ball, only to have the ball bounce off the wall and hit him in the head. The segment also featured a kid, who thought his goldfish was dead, toss him in the toilet only to discover that his goldfish isn’t really dead after all.

(This is one of my favorite videos so far).  A kid who thinks he is strong and great at karate puts on a small demonstration. He makes two cement block towers, places a stick between them and tries to karate chop the stick. After a few unsuccessful tries, he gets frustrated, grabs the stick, starts hitting things with it and eventually tosses it behind him.

Time to play a game: Nice Face. Alfonso has two girls from the audience, Hayley and Lexie. Alfonso asks a question, shows three different faces and they must guess which face answers the question. First up is Whose Babysitter is Kind of a Jerk? Face #1 is a surprised baby, Face #2 is a baffled boy and Face #3 is a dog showing his teeth. The girls guess #1 and #3 but #2 was the right answer. Next up is Who was Just Wished A Happy Birthday? Face #1 is a screaming guy, Face #2 is a surprised looking boy and Face #3 is a confused cat. They guess #1 and #2 with #1 being the correct answer. They both get a t-shirt from the show for playing.

  • (Another one of my favorite videos) A raccoon sneaks into a house through the doggie door, grabs a handful of dog food and runs out of the house.
  • A dad is reading a story to his two kids when mom interrupts his story with a loud crash.
  • (Another favorite) A group of teens believe they are eating caramel apples but the joke is on them when they bite into it and realize it is a caramel onion instead.

In the cat video segment of the show, several cats are featured including one who tries to jump onto a flat screen TV and knocks it over instead. (Oh boy would that cat be in trouble if that was my TV). The segment also features a cat who jumps several times after being scared by a rubber spider.

It is time for the three finalists to be announced. The winner gets $10,000, 2nd place gets $3,000 and 3rd place gets $2,000. The audience votes and 3rd place is the dad reading his kids a story when mom interrupts with a loud crash, 2nd place is the bulldog on the treadmill and the winner is the karate stick kid.
