The Walking Dead season 6 episode 4 Morgan_Hiding

Yesterday’s episode was 90 minutes and I have to admit, it was pretty boring. I would have expected better from the Walking Dead, season 6, episode 4.  After last week (The Walking Dead, season6, episode 3 recap), I thought we would learn about Glenn’s fate. But, we didn’t see Glenn or Rick or Maggie or anyone else really. We were lucky to see a handful of zombies. The whole episode focused on Morgan and how he went from a homicidal killer to the calm guy he is today. So, while we didn’t learn anything about Glenn, we did learn some things about Morgan.

The Walking Dead, Season 6, Episode 4 Recap: He Is Not Here

At the beginning of The Walking Dead, season 6, episode 4, we see Morgan speaking to someone in Alexandria, telling them a story about how he grew up with a power to kill, but doesn’t want to use it. We don’t see who he is talking to until the end of the episode.

Morgan has a mantra of clear and tonight we find out what that means. It means he kills everything and anything, basically clearing his territory. Morgan is in a field, repairing spears in a circle, where bodies are burned. Morgan is looking for something to clear, begins to walk through the woods, coming to a beautiful scene with the sun streaming down, tall green grass and colorful wildflowers. He hears a goat and finds a cabin in the woods. He tries to steal the goat, but the cabin’s owner isn’t going to let that happen.

Morgan wakes up in a jail cell located inside the cabin. You are probably wondering why there is a jail cell in the cabin right? That will be answered later in the episode. The owner of the cabin’s name is Eastman, who used to be a state forensic psychologist. He is also skilled at aikido, a form of martial arts that was developed by Morihei Ueshiba. Eastman gives Morgan a book called The Art of Peace, written by Morihei Ueshiba.

I am honestly confused as to why Eastman seems to care about Morgan so much. Well, we soon find out that he wants to leave on some kind of journey and he doesn’t want to go alone, he wants a companion with him. This is what seems to be his motivation for keeping Morgan around.

Eastman tells Morgan that the jail cell isn’t locked, it never was and he is free to go if he wants. As you can imagine, things don’t go so well. Morgan attacks Eastman but Eastman doesn’t exactly fight back, although it looks like he wants to.

Eastman is a rather complex character. We see flashbacks of Eastman with a lucky rabbit’s foot at a martial arts class. The rabbit’s foot was given to him by his daughter. And before you ask, yes it is the same one we see Morgan with later on. He also tells Morgan the story of Crighton Dallas Wilton, a psychopathic convict. Wilton attacked Eastman but didn’t kill him. However, later on Wilton escaped from prison, went to his house and killed his wife, daughter, and son. Wilton then went to the police station and turned himself in. Eastman devised a plan to kill Wilton, which is why he built the jail cell in his cabin. He found Wilton, who had been given a prison job at a hospital. Eastman took Wilton back to the cabin and threw him in the cell. Did Eastman kill Wilton right then and there? Nope! He killed him in the most inhumane way possible. He starved him to death, which took 47 days for Wilton to die. So, it seems that Eastman was crazy just like Morgan. But, later came to his senses when he saw the collapse of society.

Eastman dies towards the end of the episode and Morgan leaves the cabin. From there, he picks up on the trail of Rick and ends up in Alexandria.

So remember at the beginning of  The Walking Dead, episode 4, where Morgan was talking to someone? Turns out that Morgan is telling this whole story to the same Wolf that attacked him inside the house. So, basically all this was flashbacks except the very beginning and very end of the episode. Oh and yes you probably thought that Morgan killed the Wolf, I think everyone did. Turns out Morgan didn’t kill him, just decapitated him. He is telling the story to try and change him the same way Eastman changed him. But, this doesn’t work since the Wolf assured Morgan that if he gets out, he will kill anyone and everyone in the town.

The episode ends with Morgan hearing someone screaming at the front gate, someone that sounds a lot like Rick, then there is a knock at the door!

Stay tuned next week for hopefully a less boring episode at The Walking Dead, season 6.

  1. I agree with you. I didn’t care about what happened to Morgan. Can’t believe it was an hour and half about him. I wanted to see how Rick was doing. I hate when they do history about where a person has been. Drives me nutty!! Next week better be about Rick else I am writing to the show.

  2. This is my first time to read an episode recap of The Walking Dead and I’m gonna check this series out 🙂

  3. I’m a big fan of The Walking Dead. I did watch this episode and thought it was a bit drawn out. I think they spent the time on this episode due to the intensity of the previous episodes this season. I also think they’re trying to draw out the question of whether a certain person died or not. In any case this was a great recap!

  4. My husband is a big fan of the walking dead & he has been watching all the previous episodes as well for long time. I am sure this recap will be so interesting for him knowing how it all goes.
