Concussion is an upcoming biographical sports and medical drama thriller movie set to hit theaters on Christmas Day- December 25, 2015. The movie was directed by as well as written by Peter Landesman. Concussion is set to be released in theaters by Columbia Pictures. The movie is based on an article from October of 2009 that appeared in GQ Magazine, titled Game Brain by Jeanne Marie Laskas.

In the movie, Will Smith plays the role of Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic pathologist, who is responsible for being the first person to publish findings regarding CTE-or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy-in football players in the United States. Filming on the movie started on October 27, 2014, and concluded in the middle part of January 2015.

Concussion is rated PG-13 for thematic material, including language and some disturbing images. The movie is about Dr. Bennet Omalu, who fought tooth and nail for his findings regarding CTE and American football players. His quest to expose the truth puts him at dangerous odds with one of the world’s most powerful organizations, the National Football League.

Concussion  Movie Trivia:

To prepare for his role as Dr. Julian Bailes, Alec Baldwin actually studied a few prominent doctors in Pittsburgh, PA. Also, Pittsburgh, PA is the location where the movie was filmed.

One major scene in the movie was filmed in Altius Restaurant on Mt. Washington.

Will Smith and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will also star together in the movie Suicide Squad in 2016.

Ridley Scott produced the film. He drew inspiration from his studies about former NFL stars Dave Duerson and Junior Seau, who both tragically killed themselves after suffering from CTE.

R&B singer Leon Bridges provided a brand new song for the Concussion movie, called “So Long.”

The film releases on the same day as two other major movies, including Joy (starring the Jennifer Lawrence of The Hunger Games) and Daddy’s Home (starring Will Ferrell).
