1- Between

Between is a sci-fi teen drama television series that has aired on Netflix for 2 seasons, premiering on May 21, 2015.

The series showcases a mysterious disease outbreak in a small town and stars Jennette McCurdy (Sam from iCarly!). Maureen Ryan, TV Critic with the Huffington Post states, “Between boasts a reasonably strong foundation, and its storylines receive promising execution, at least in the show’s pilot.”

Seeing McCurdy play a serious role (and do such an amazing job of it) is probably the highlight of this underrated Netflix show!

2- Easy

Easy is a comedy drama anthology television series that has aired for 1 season on Netflix, debuting on September 22, 2016.

The series focuses on a group of friends, living in Chicago, dealing with love, culture and technology. Episodes have featured Dave Franco, Orlando Bloom and Hannibal Buress. Rotten Tomatoes, gave the first season a 92% approval rating!

3- Flaked

Flaked is a comedy television series that has aired on Netflix for 2 seasons, premiering on March 11, 2016.

Chip, played by Will Arnett, is a recovering alcoholic and current self-help guru. Author, Jcrawfordor, with the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) states, “The acting and the story aren’t really what makes this show for me, though.

There’s something else about it, a certain je ne sais quoi as they say, that’s very hard to explain. Flaked is beautiful.”

4-Grace and Frankie

Grace and Frankie is a comedy drama television series that has aired for 3 seasons on Netflix, debuting on May 8, 2015.

The series centers on Grace Hanson and Frankie Bergstein, who become unlikely friends when their husbands fall in love with each other. The series features an ensemble cast including Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, as well as Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Craig T. Nelson, Sam Elliott and Ernie Hudson.

5- Haters Back Off

Haters Back Off is a comedy television series that has aired on Netflix for 1 season, premiering on October 14, 2016.

7- Lady Dynamite

Lady Dynamite is a comedy television series that has aired on Netflix for 1 season, premiering on May 20, 2016.

The series stars stand-up comedian, Maria Bamford, with the series being loosely based on her life. On the aggregate review website, Metacritic, season 1 of the series received a universal acclaim score of 85 out of 10.

8- Love

Love is a romantic comedy television series that has aired for 2 seasons on Netflix, debuting on February 19, 2016.

The series focuses on romantic relationships, as seen from a female perspective, Mickey Dobbs, played by Gillian Jacobs and a male perspective, Gus Cruikshank, played by Paul Rust. Rotten Tomatoes gave season 1 an approval rating of 88% and season 2 an approval rating of 94%.

9- Lovesick

Lovesick is a comedy television series that has aired on Netflix for 2 seasons, premiering on October 2, 2014.

When Dylan, played by Johnny Flynn, is diagnosed with an STD, he must notify each of his past sexual partners. The series received an average audience score of 93%, through Rotten Tomatoes.

10-Master of None

Master of None is a comedy drama television series that has aired for 2 seasons on Netflix, debuting on November 6, 2015.

The series follows the personal and professional life of commercial actor, Dev Shah, played by Aziz Ansari. The series has claimed several awards including the 2016 Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Comedy Series.

11- The OA

The OA is a mystery drama television series that has aired on Netflix for 1 season, premiering on December 16, 2016.

Prairie Johnson, played by Brit Marling, is a young, blind woman who mysteriously vanished 7 years ago and has returned with her sight restored. Hank Stuever, TV Critic with the Washington Post states, “That’s the true allure of weird TV. When it’s this good, it takes hold of you and pulls you under.”

Of all these underrated Netflix shows, I think Between was my favorite so far. It’s probably the most underrated of the bunch! With new shows coming out pretty much every other day, it’s easy to miss out on some real gems that just aren’t getting as much attention as the big shows!
